The Melbourne weather has been up and down recently, but still… it’s summer!
If you have not done so already, now is the time to prep your home for the warmer season.
Here are 5 things you can do to get your home summer ready.
Roll up the rugs
Woolly rugs, thick blankets and cozy quilts… you probably won’t need them in summer, so it is time to store them up. Replace them with thinner mats, throws and blankets, to give your home a lighter and airier feel. While you’re at it, you could also consider giving the carpet a good clean to remove all the dust and dirt.
Tend the garden
Few things shout ‘summer!’ like a beautifully tended garden with healthy trees and flowers. As the Aussie summer can bring with it some extreme temperatures, it is important to keep your plants well watered. Summer is the best time for pruning shrubs and trees, as well as for tidying up the yard. For even more of a summery feel, you might consider bringing the green indoors, by putting some potted plants inside your home.
Update the outdoor entertaining area
The warmer weather and longer days are perfect for outdoor entertaining and parties. Do you need to update the look of your patio or outdoor alfresco area? The build-up of dust on the fan blades can lower the efficiency of the fan considerably. Take this time to clean your ceiling fan, and also make sure it is switched to summer mode, turning anti-clockwise. This will push air down and create better circulation, as well as keep the occupants in the space cooler.
Check the air conditioner
Summer has only just begun, which means we have more warm days ahead of us. Take the time now to check that your air conditioning system is in good condition. If you have a split system, you should clean or replace your air filter. Turn your air conditioner on to see if it is cooling as effectively as it should.
